Chair - Construction Training Organisation

Kilpatrick has been asked by a nationally recognized training organisation in the construction sector to lead a search which will result in the appointment of its first independent Chair.

THE ORGANISATION 

Our client is a nationally recognised training organisation dedicated to developing and raising the skills of those working in the building services engineering sector. The organisation has now decided to change its board structure introducing for the first time an independent Chair.  The new Chair will provide leadership and vision and ensure the effectiveness of the Board’s strategy, at an exciting phase in the organization’s development. 

THE POSITION

The main aim of the role is to chair Board meetings and other meetings as requested, to ensure that the Board’s strategy is robust and practical, and provide advice and support to the CEO in implementing strategy and policy decisions made by the board. Key responsibilities will include working closely with the CEO in shaping the vision for the organisation’s future direction while ensuring success in existing markets, representing the organisation externally, providing leadership to ensure that the Board performs effectively, building strong relationships with stakeholders ensuring that objectives and priorities are followed up, and stimulating balanced discussion, widening horizons and ensuring the Board works within its strategy. 

THE PERSON 

The person appointed will be a current or recent CEO with a strong commercial background.  While experience in training/education and/or building services is not essential, candidates from these sectors would be welcomed.  Above all he/she should be demonstrably capable of leading a board. Personal qualities are paramount, these will include sound judgement, wisdom, ability to gain respect, inspirational leadership skills, commercial acumen and enthusiasm.
