Finance Director - Materials Technology

A global materials technology company has asked Kilpatrick to help them find a Finance Director to support their continued expansion.

The Company

Our client is a global technology solutions company offering an advanced surface treatment for light alloys such as aluminium, magnesium and titanium. The coating has numerous applications across aerospace, defence, semi-conductor, electronics, consumer products, motor racing, and marine where there is a growing desire to use light alloys in even the most demanding environments.

Private equity backed, the business has enjoyed significant growth and to support this recently moved to brand new premises near Cambridge. The company is recognised as the global authority in its technology and maintains its know-how through deep cooperation with leading academic institutions including Cambridge University.

The Opportunity

The business aims to continue its recent expansion and is seeking to strengthen its capability by recruiting an experienced Finance Director. Reporting directly to the CEO he/she will be responsible for the financial strategy of the company and providing financial information to the CEO, the Board and Investors. The Finance Director will be supported by a capable team.

Apart from a professional accounting background, it will be important that the appointed person understands the dynamics of taking a relatively new technology to market and the challenges this brings and has the the style and personality suited to an early-stage, innovative technology business.

This challenging role carrying the responsibility of actively contributing to the company's planned growth, but also offering an opportunity to realise the significant potential of an exciting technology in a marketplace that is highly receptive.

The Position

The Finance Director will ensure the maintenance of appropriate financial control and policy throughout the company, design, oversee, review and present the financial reporting, co-ordinate the annual budget production and intermediate forecasts, produce the annual accounts and tax return, and ensuing audit for the Group and its subsidiaries, monitor and forecast cashflow, approve payments, review sales proposals on the CRM system, oversee Company Secretarial activity and Investor relations, supervise and co-ordinate the IT service function, and provide financial support to the Board for ad-hoc investment and project decisions.

The Person

The successful candidate will be a graduate qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, ACMA) with a track record of achievement at senior management level including time spent in manufacturing. Must already have day to day responsibility for the finance function with a full knowledge of management accounting, planning budgeting, forecasting, working capital management, and IT systems. The Finance Director will be used to operating accurately to tight deadlines with a thorough understanding of the key profit drivers, experienced in the review and improvement of systems and procedures, and familiar with working with private equity investors. He/she will have a genuine interest in the business and its operation and be innovative, open-minded and flexible.
