Director - Life Science Business

We have been asked by an industry leader in digital imaging to conduct a search for an outstanding individual to position, develop and grow its Life Science business.

Our client is an industry leader in digital imaging, recognised for developing award winning, ground breaking imaging technologies and software. As a pioneer in its field with nearly four decades of experience in solving digital imaging problems, the company now manufactures and supplies many successful products marketed and sold through world class partners. It has built a global reputation for award-winning innovations with inherent product reliability and design quality.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Since 2003 our client has been developing a Life Science business based on its core imaging technology. Working closely with major blue chip partners, the company has created a new generation of products for digital pathology that reduce time, enhance quality and increase reliability, using unique technology.

An exciting pipeline of new imaging and diagnostic product developments presents significant opportunities for the company. The new role of Director- Life Science Business has been created to take responsibility for the positioning, development, and growth of the business. Life Science is seen as central to the company’s future development and success in this key Board level role will create excellent prospects.

THE POSITION

The Director- Life Science Business will be responsible for the growth, P&L, strategic direction and overall performance of the Life Science business, including the management of the existing team. Responsibilities will include defining, owning and leading the delivery of a 3-5 year business plan that fits the company’s strategic growth objectives, identification and management of new and existing business partnerships required for business success, including technology suppliers, ‘take to market’ partners and funding agencies, creation and ownership of long-range business & product plans including strategic partnership objectives and funding strategies, and maximizing the top line growth and bottom line profitability of the Life Science business through effective product planning, and efficient implementation.

THE PERSON

The ideal candidate will be a high calibre individual with a degree or equivalent level most likely related to life science markets or technologies and ideally an MBA. He/she will have several years business management and development experience gained within manufacturers of technologically advanced life science products. The Director- Life Science Business should have proven experience of defining and managing strategic product direction and business planning in a life science domain, and a full awareness of manufacturing, R&D and customer service processes, sensitivities and terminology. Personal qualities will include team orientation, strategic thinking, customer focus and the ability to plan and think long-term in a proactive manner.
