Headquartered in London, Iron Mountain Europe is a market leading and rapidly growing organisation providing sophisticated and leading edge business to business services, focused on information protection and storage, for major companies through the provision of comprehensive records management, data protection and information destruction solutions. Part of Iron Mountain Incorporated, a $3 billion global organisation listed on the NYSE, Iron Mountain Europe employs over 4000 people in 18 countries and generates revenue approaching £300 million. 

The Challenge

Iron Mountain's brief to us was to source two new Country Managing Directors for their key businesses operating in Germany and the Netherlands. These businesses had grown rapidly both organically and via acquisition.

In a confidential search the essential aim was to find and attract senior people from within the countries concerned who could bring much needed fresh creative and entrepreneurial drive; high level operational improvement, management, leadership and strategic skills; and the credibility and connections in the respective marketplaces to drive for and achieve sustained and quality business growth.

The Solution

A wide ranging and in depth search was conducted throughout Germany and the Netherlands, utilising our international researchers, targeting in particular competitor organisations in the sector and other quality companies in the related logistics and facilities management fields providing similar multi site business to business services to blue chip customers. Networking with existing key players already known to us in these sectors was also carried out. It was vitally important to maintain strict confidentiality at all times during the search and to ensure that this did not dilute the ability to stimulate and sustain the interest of key candidates.

The Outcome

Following intensive searching within the target markets where it was not straightforward to find the right people, a total of ninety-five people were identified and we contacted eighty-six of them. Detailed discussions were held in Germany and the Netherlands with eight interested candidates who had the right credentials and four were shortlisted, along with in depth reports, for Iron Mountain Europe. For both of these key roles clear front runners emerged who had the required qualities and skills and appointments were made successfully.  We maintained contact until the starting dates and beyond. The appointed candidates are performing very well.
