The Company

Our client is planning to appoint a high calibre structural engineer to head up structural engineering design in its head office near London, and to assist in winning contracts.  This represents an exceptional opportunity to join the team which is making history in civil and maritime engineering with the greatest breakthrough in heavy engineering technology for the last 150 years.

The company is a technology and licensing business.  While it is necessary for the company to be heavily involved in the design for initial projects, increasingly the company is aiming to make ‘products’ which will be specified and designed by architects and engineering consultants and fabricated by licensee manufacturers.

The Position

The appointment of the Director of Structural Engineering is critical to the development of the company’s civil and construction engineering business worldwide and the evolution of its growing design capability in Europe.  The role will: 

  • Lead the technical interface with clients in EMEA
  • Support the business development team in winning projects
  • Build a team of design engineers
  • Liaise closely with the CTO and IEC office to ensure consistency in technical approach, and the timely delivery of design solutions for projects

This important new post will report directly into, the business unit Director of Civil Engineering, with a strong dotted line into the CTO on technical issues. It is important that the successful candidate brings strong structural engineering design and client management skills, commercial flair and a disciplined quality management approach.

The Person

Experience

The preferred candidate will have significant experience in an engineering consultancy or client-oriented construction organisation, or a manufacturer of a technically advanced product with a structural engineering application. He/she will already have established a reputation for excellence in structural engineering. 

  • Used to leading and managing teams.
  • Capable of running commercial projects from a technical standpoint
  • Experience of designing and selling diverse structures is important
  • Experience in buildings and/or stadiums is preferable
  • Experience of construction project management and design process disciplines

 Qualifications

  • Graduate in an engineering discipline from a highly regarded university.
  • CEng, MIStructE
  • Ideally an additional structural engineering qualification, i.e Masters.
