The Position

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Operational Excellence Programme Director, the Operational Excellence Expert will function as a key member of the Operational Excellence Team and will address needs and relate closely to people at all levels and in all functions on site. The main role purpose is to support the site in the delivery of the continuous improvement programme and overall site business strategy.

There is a need to provide technical expertise and project management skills to ensure that improvements are delivered in accordance with agreed timelines and in compliance with operations, customer and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Make recommendations on the overall programme of site improvement activities in support of business strategy.
  • Own discrete program areas and deliver results from associated projects.
  • Conduct Six Sigma DMAIC and Lean projects, leading teams to address business process problems and design new processes to achieve results.  
  • Facilitate problem solving and brainstorming workshops that lead teams to address issues not requiring the DMAIC approach.
  • Conduct special data analysis in support of business decision making using the SSL tools.
  • Establish control measures to sustain improvements where applicable and train process owners in their use.
  • Mentor Green / Black Belts in completing DMAIC projects.
  • Facilitate project completion by Green Belts by recognising and addressing organisational barriers.
  • Conduct Lean / Six Sigma training classes for Green / Black Belts and just in time training as and when required.
  • Assist in improvement activities including training, mentoring and facilitating kaizen events, six sigma projects, tool deployment and benchmarking, etc...

Relationships:

 

The Operational Excellence Expert will perform a highly visible and influential role on site. It will be vitally important to cultivate and develop close working relationships and credibility at all levels. This will also facilitate the opportunity to maximise effectiveness and contribution within the business.

The Person

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree or equivalent level qualification preferred in an Engineering, Business or Technical discipline.
  • Ideally Black Belt certified.
  • Proven experience in a relevant modern and progressive manufacturing business.
  • Detailed knowledge and experience in the use of Lean Six Sigma tools, techniques and methodologies.
  • Proven change management experience.

  • Good analytical and IT skills – proficient in Excel, Word and Powerpoint.
