Mechanical Engineering Associate - Design Consultancy

A leading international multidisciplinary practice has retained Kilpatrick to conduct a search for an innovative designer to strengthen its research building capability through leading iconic projects

Our client is a major international, interdisciplinary practice of architects, designers, engineers and urbanists.  It works closely with users, clients and the community to create special places for living, working, shopping, culture and learning across the world. The practice aims to be ethical and responsible to all stakeholders, believing that good design can create substantial economic and social value. It now employs around 850 architects, designers, civil, structural and building services engineers, urbanists, sustainability experts, lighting designers and acoustics experts in studios across the UK, Ireland, Netherlands, the MENA region, India, and China.

The practice is committed to developing and expanding its research building capability both in the UK and internationally.  To achieve this it is looking to recruit a mechanical building services engineer with experience of leading research laboratory projects to strengthen the team, based in London. The position will be at Associate level with scope, following success in the role, for promotion as part of the succession plan for Environmental Engineering.  This is an exceptional opportunity for an innovative designer and leader with client facing skills to join one of the world’s leading architect/engineering practices which can offer excellent long term prospects.

The Associate will lead and design research laboratory and other projects. He/she will guide and direct teams to design and carry out projects to the highest levels of quality. This will involve listening to and interpreting the needs and aspirations of the client and inspiring a response which meets or surpasses the design quality ambitions of the practice, collaborating with all disciplines engaged in the design team, building a team utilising the firm’s resources to ensure projects are managed and completed successfully, and sharing and displaying commitment and aspirations to the values of the firm’s inter-disciplinary culture.

We are seeking a graduate in a relevant engineering discipline with a building services bias.  A  Chartered Engineer, MCIBSE, is preferred. He/she will have considerable experience of engineering design of research environments and should have successfully delivered large, complex projects in this field with a significant architectural focus. Familiarity with working with leading name architects is essential as is research laboratory experience, healthcare experience is an advantage. The Associate will be used to building and leading teams and must have a strong ‘hands on’ design focus, yet with proven ability in project leadership and management. Personal qualities will include a charismatic personality, strong leadership skills and well developed organising ability.
